‘Stone in the Forest’, which became a meme, spread about 4 years ago on Twitter, Livejournal and on the Vkontakte social network later. The activity of a fictional character – a stone – consists of one daily record, in most cases containing the line “Today nothing happened”. Only after a detailed and thorough reading of the entire history of the messages it is possible to find some fleeting and insignificant events reflected in the posts of the Stone.

The character can be viewed equally as a model of behavior in social networks of the generalized user: almost meaningless messages on a timeline confirm her/his existence. So as the media, regardless of the presence or absence of news obliged  to sum up the topics of the past day. Life-affirming phrases and pictures arise in the foreground in the world with daily threats and dangers.

3D animation in the background illustrates the most popular news topics in Russia’s media over the past year.
